PROSPECT - MODERN LIFE

Ukrainian Firearms
The firearms production has never been Ukrainian’s strong point. The
USSR’s policy of
strengthening economic ties between various members of the
social camp led to the situation when no country had the all-round cycle of
industrial and agricultural production which lessened the economic and military
potential of each separate country member of the USSR. This also concerned
firearms. For
instance, Ukraine produced tank and troop-carrier armor, engines for heavy armament
and air-crafts, highly technological equipment and optical systems. But the
final assemblage occurred somewhere else. As for the firearms it should be
said that firearms were produced in Russia only.
So, after the collapse of
the USSR the issue of the day was to rearmament the army and especially police
forces with new, cheap and desirably national firearms, as the deterioration
of it produced during
the
USSR times made firearms dangerous to its owner.

After
the number of reorganizations in 1994 the research-and-production union “FORT”
appeared. Nowadays the output of this union is presented by the series
of firearms:
“Fort” pistols of different modifications (firearms with live
cartridge as well as
traumatic), "Fort" hunting rifles and
special human body protection facilities. (for more details, please, visit
www.fort.vn.ua).
Traumatic firearms less popular than live cartridge ones among police
forces. As for civilians - Ukrainian laws prohibit to have any rifled
firearms regardless of the fact whether it is traumatic or live
cartridge firearms.
From my own experience I remember that feeling of admiration which I experienced when I first used national firearms - “Fort 12” in the shouting gallery. In convenience of usage, in rate of fire Fort firearms incomparably exceed Makarov pistol. But if to be objective it should be said that as any young firearms it has its so called “childish diseases” which are cured with the course of time and the growth of the technical experience.
